Looking at the Adoption of NFV

April 18, 2017 6:33 AM | Category: Better ServicesCloud,  | by Damian Nowak

NFV, Network Function Virtualization, is an exciting topic. NFV means virtualizing network services to decouple network functions from hardware devices. This allows network services to be hosted on virtual machines resulting in cost reductions and additional flexibility to deploy multiple instances that are customized to serve different lines of business. The significant benefits are prompting many companies in traditional technology intensive industries such as telecommunications to deploy NFV technologies. While we are seeing more NFV deployments around the world, it has not yet been deployed on a mass scale. Many Tier 1 operators are still hesitant to commit to the new technology, with smaller operators likely to make the change once the larger players have deployed and rigorously tested the technology.

How to Deliver the Digital Transformation Promise

November 2, 2016 11:46 AM | Category: Better Services,  | by Melahat Elis

On October 13-14 the annual ETIS event – a global Community Gathering - took place in Zagreb, Croatia. This year was the 25th anniversary and more than 160 participants attended, more than in recent years. The theme of this year’s event was ‘Delivering the Digital Transformation Promise’.

ETIS truly delivered on its promise for being the trusted forum for sharing knowledge, by creating an open atmosphere for discussion. Redknee followed this tradition of sharing and presented jointly with Hrvatski Telecom, the local Croatian affiliate of the Deutsche Telekom Group. The presentation discussed why the modernization of their convergent charging solution was necessary, how the upgrade was performed and new use cases for newly created business segments. Redknee highlighted how the new solution could help charging new application areas including the Internet of Things (IoT). The shared examples are based on Redknee’s expertise in current engagements in smart home system, healthcare services, in-vehicle services and prepaid energy services.

Enjoy streaming with no limits, really?

November 24, 2015 8:09 PM | Category: Better ServicesSubscriber Analytics,  | by Melahat Elis

Over the last few years we have seen an explosion in OTT mobile entertainment options with many of mobile entertainment companies investing in marketing by operators. As streaming of entertainment has become more common, the reality is that consumers often don’t realize how fast their data packages can be consumed. Any operator that overcomes this flaw is put in the spotlight. It was no surprise that T-Mobile US’ launch of Binge On™ created a lot of attention, promising free video streams for subscribers of 24 OTT providers among them HBO, Hulu, Netflix, SHOWTIME, Sling TV, STARZ, and WatchESPN. John Legere, the T-Mobile CEO, even said that no one pays, not the customers nor the video streaming services. Is the streaming of content of these OTT providers indeed limitless and without anyone paying for it? Is this the start of a new era of mobile entertainment – an era when we can truly access entertainment anywhere at any time?

Here I Go Again

This could be the title song for the third TM Forum survey on Real-time Convergent Charging (RTCC) and Policy, which includes a nice infographic that summarizes the survey’s results. Upon first look it confirms all of the topics the industry has been discussing for the last few years. The survey found that 93% of all surveyed believe failing to implement convergent real-time charging and policy to be detrimental to communication service providers (CSPs). It also found that greater than 50% of CSPs are already halfway through their implementation. Moreover, 85% of respondents agree that real-time charging and policy should be integrated. These revelations are not exactly surprising if you have followed the industry in recent years.

Looking Beyond … To the Connected Customer Experience

June 5, 2014 11:43 AM | Category: Happier SubscribersBetter Services,  | by Jim DeMarco

At this year’s TM Forum Live!, Redknee was proud to showcase our longstanding strategic partnership with Microsoft to highlight the live-time nature of the Connected Customer Experience in this new world, including:
-Connected retail engagements, leveraging Redknee’s Unified Retail software, featuring Microsoft Dynamics Point of Sale and Dynamics AX Retail Server, to show a best practices approach enabling customers to link seamlessly their online shopping experience with their in-shop experience.
-Social customer engagement, showing Redknee Unified BSS and Microsoft Power BI business intelligence tools to link real-time campaign management with social networking tools for a more social, dynamic customer interaction.
-Real-time transaction processing, featuring Redknee’s Connected Suite, running on the Microsoft Azure cloud to support real-time charging and policy decisions for connected devices in the Internet of Things.

The focus on customer experience stems from a rather simple paradigm, one which is obvious in the retail world but which has unfortunately been lost in the telecoms space for many years: the customer is in control of their own destiny.
